Solving Power-on password, non system disk or disk error
My friend gave me a notebook having Power-on password issue. And this post is telling about how I solved this problem. If you are looking for reference, you do not need to read the whole post, just jump to Issues and fixing.
1- Disassembling a notebook:
This is the very first time I disassemble a notebook! Oh my Dad! It must be harder than disassembling a desktop PC 3 times or much more. Many small devices really need your carefulness and patience.
2- Finding and fixing problems:
It took me around 17 hours (hic hic if the owner told me that the DVD-ROOM was DEAD already, it would save me up to 10 hours *^&%%$#$&%*&$&$&$.) to solve the problems: the notebook could not boot due to “Bios password issue” “power-on password” and “non system disk or disk error”.
The pity is that I did not know that all the problem had been solved at the first day. I did not know that the CD-ROOM was DEAD already, even I could see it in the bios. So I just thought that there was something wrong left with the bios, or the main board, or the HDD. So both of us (the notebook and me) worked for nearly whole night! And this workaround took me more than 10 holly stupid hours for searching, reading, disassembling, reassempling, checking…
Then I tried with a bootable usb which has got hiren’s boot files 10.0 inside. And it worked. And I could run some tools to format the HDD, set active partition… Finally, I thought that it must be having something wrong with the DVD-ROM. I made a call to the owner… the owner: “I am sorry, I forgot to tell you that the DVD-ROM was dead”… ^*&^%$#@@#$%^^
3 – Issues and fixing
I have tried all of the follow methods. And they worked well for me.
Power-on password: try removing the real-time clock (RTC) battery (you should read maintenance and service guide from manufacturer).
Non system disk or disk error: first try removing the all bootable devices, including USB, bootable DVD…, then check your HDD, DVD-ROM. If no luck, try a BOOTABLE USB like my situation. If all of the above method don’t work, you may try updating your BIOS, buy a new RTC battery.
(I did both, using bootable usb, update bios, and buy a new RTC battery).
Good luck!
